| One of the biggest complaints about freecycling is the “no show”. People respond to your postings, tell you they’ll be around to pickup your item. Then, they turn out to be no shows. No contact, no explanation, no apology… nothing! It happens way more often than it should. Here’s a message you can adapt for your own use when contacting potential “takers” of your stuff. It has certainly worked for me when I use it.

A FREECYCLE “NO SHOW” WARNING TEMPLATE:
====================================
NB: I personally take the question of freecycle pick-ups / no shows
seriously. My time is of significant value to me personally.
So, if you are a no-show, or you are late for an agreed appointment
without a reasonable explanation, you will have spent some of your
personal “goodwill” capital, and you’ll have a negative balance in your
personal goodwill account with me, and you may no longer be a
candidate for anything else we might offer in future. And, you’re
definitely going to be added to my personal freecycling “baddies” list.
So, be a freecycling “good-guy”! It’s not that hard. Keep your
appointments; arrive on-time; be grateful for small favours; and
you’ll get a “credit” in my goodwill account with you! And, besides,
it’s the right thing to do. Goodwill, it’s the currency of freecycling!
Don’t squander it by being a “no-show”.
From time to time, I share my “no show” list with a few other long-
time freecycling aficionados.
